The Nature Conservancy's Global Invasive Species Initiative: A Creative Brief

The Nature Conservancy wanted to revamp its Global Initiative brochure series with a fresh look that would attract potential corporate partners, and they turned to MSU's Professional Writing program for help. I proposed a modern, linear look that would appeal to the business sense and civil responsibility of leaders in the corporate and community sectors. This memo, which details my "Nature in the Boardroom" concept, shows my ability to analyze my audience and rhetorically develop a direction for a major project. Click to open PDF

Page Design: Guide to Organizations for Writers

This design is a template for a book that would list and describe associations for professional writers. I created a simple look with visually pleasing touches, like sidebars and a space for the organization's logo. I also included a "quick facts" section so readers could quickly skim a group's information before deciding to read the whole page.Click to open PDF

GIRL

In this pet project, I created a post-modern expression of what it "feels like" to be female in America. Based on years of cumulative research from my gender and language studies, I designed and distributed a survey designed to illicit candid and honest responses from young women. Then, I created the framework and several actual pages for a book exploring issues like body image, abuse, and the "princess" ideology. I connected these abstract concepts to actual quotes from my survey, and used images to maximize the effect of the both words and the ideas on readers. These will open in the browser as jpegs, and I highly recommend viewing them at their full size by clicking on them with the magnifying glass.
